Бързи факти: The river, nearly 230 kilometers long, winds its way west between canyons, swelling by several meters during the rainy season and turning red from the clay load. A three-day pirogue trip of about 150 kilometers brings crocodiles, lemurs, and rapids along the way.

Акценти: At its narrowest point, limestone walls squeeze the water into a corridor barely twenty meters wide, where you have to push the pirogue off the rocks with your hands. Part of the night is spent on a sandbank that only emerges from the water during low tide, and by morning crocodiles may come to rest on the same beach.
