Architect I.M. Pei, then 91 years old, traveled across the Muslim world for months and found his inspiration in the simple, geometric purity of the 9th-century Ibn Tulun Mosque in Cairo. The museum's stone changes color throughout the day, shifting from warm honey at sunrise to cool silver-gray under the midday desert sun.

Step inside a desert rose crystal that tells the story of a nation. Wander 1.5 kilometers of sensory galleries where sand, sea, and culture collide across 11 immersive installations.

Eighty-eight hectares of running trails, playgrounds, and shaded lawns await in the city's largest green escape. Wander past the lake, spot turtles sunbathing, and watch the tower light up at dusk.

The adjacent 300-meter tower looms over the eastern edge, its LED facade cycling through colors that reflect off the lake after sunset.

Watch the traditional wooden dhows glide past while the call to prayer echoes from nearby mosques, creating a sensory blend of old and new Qatar that unfolds right from the waterfront.

Step inside Doha's last surviving 1920s fortress and discover where Qatar's past meets its living craft traditions. Watch artisans hammer, weave, and carve by hand in the same courtyard where police officers once drilled.

Weather in June was brutal. 45 degrees at noon made outdoor exploring impossible. Do yourself a favor and go November to February.
Skip the restaurants inside Souq Waqif. Walk to the alleys behind it and eat where the locals eat. Half the price double the flavor.
The museum of Islamic Art blew my mind. Spent 4 hours in there easily. Rest of Doha felt a bit too polished and artificial for my taste.
Friday mornings everything is dead until 1pm. Plan around prayer times or you'll be wandering empty streets.
Really enjoyed the mix of old and new. One minute you're in the souq, the next you're in this futuristic skyline. Food scene surprised me.
