Hurtige fakta: Hele museet ligger otte meter under jordoverfladen, og dets gallerier krammer de tårnhøje granitvægge i en tørdok, der blev udhugget i 1856. Over 13.000 genstande fylder samlingerne, herunder et komplet fyrtårn fra 1912, som du faktisk kan klatre ind i.
Højdepunkter: I stedet for stablede gallerier er hele stedet ét jævnt skrånende rampesystem, der snoer sig rundt om hele omkredsen af den granitbeklædte dok. Næsten 300 meter sammenhængende gangsti lader dig glide fra jordoverfladen ned til grubens gulv, forbi den oprindelige reparationsdok, hvor store skibe engang flød direkte ovenover.
