Hurtige fakta: Den engelske digter Shelleys sonet 'Ozymandias' blev inspireret af den enorme kolos, der lå væltet på jorden på gårdspladsen, og som afbildede Ramses II. Kolossen var engang omkring 19 meter høj og næsten 1.000 ton tung, og hovedet alene var 2,5 meter langt.
Højdepunkter: Kolossens hoved, omkring 2,5 meter højt og 7 ton tungt, ligger stadig på jorden, og Shelley brugte netop dette hoved som muse for sin sonet. Det astronomiske loftornament forestiller himmelgudinden Nut, og knap 3.000 år gammelt forbliver det helt intakt.
