Hurtige fakta: Vintertemperaturerne her falder til under minus 20 grader Celsius, mens parkens berømte sneladne grangrene bøjer sig i dramatiske buer, nogle med over 400 kilo sne. Parkens fjeldtoppe når op til 465 meter over havets overflade, men de blide skråninger gør terrænet overraskende tilgængeligt for sneskovandrere på alle niveauer.
Højdepunkter: Når temperaturen når omkring minus 20 grader, skaber varme kilder under parken tåge, der stiger op i luften og fryser fast på hver gren og nål i et skinnende lag af iskrystaller kaldet ryte. At se solopgangen forvandle disse frosne skove til en lyserød og gylden katedral af frost er noget, fotografier simpelthen ikke kan indfange.

- Layer with merino wool under a windproof shell, since temperatures can swing 15 degrees between sunny slopes and shaded valleys
- Photograph the frost trees from the Isolampi hill viewpoint around sunrise when the sun paints the ice pink and gold
- The Riisitunturi loop trail is easier and less crowded than the longer route up the main fell, so take it first while energy is fresh
- Head out on a clear night to see the aurora borealis reflect off the snow-covered forest without any light pollution
- Bring a flask of hot berry juice, the locals' off-trail tradition, to keep warm during rest breaks
