Indian Botanical Garden
Bedste tid at besøge
Visit between November and February when Kolkata's humidity drops and the gardens are lush after the monsoon. Arrive right when gates open at 9 AM to beat the crowds and start with the Great Banyan before the light gets harsh.
Budgettips
Entry costs just 50 INR for Indians and 100 INR for foreigners, making it one of the cheapest large gardens in India. Students with ID get in for 20 INR, and the walk from the gate to the Great Banyan is free exercise, no tram or rickshaw needed.

Om
Hurtige fakta: Hjem for over 2.000 plantearter fordelt på 273 acres, går denne victorianske botaniske have tilbage til 1787.
Insidertips
- Skip the tram inside the garden, walking the 2 kilometer loop past the banyan, greenhouses, and lake is more rewarding.
- Best photo of the Great Banyan is from the eastern side around 10 AM when the sun filters through the aerial roots at a low angle.
- Wear closed shoes and long pants, the grass harbors ant colonies and the pathways can get muddy after rain.
- Bring your own water and snacks, the lone on-site canteen has limited options and tends to run out by midday.
