Hurtige fakta: Legend says the Greek hero founded this clifftop town after taming the monsters of the Straits, so the bronze sculpture of him in the middle of the square is its origin story made metal. Perched about 70 meters above the water, the terrace gives you a front-row seat to the Tyrrhenian Sea and, on clear days, the volcanic peaks of the Aeolian Islands.
Højdepunkter: At the square's edge, a low stone parapet puts you eye level with the horizon, and the smoking cone of a volcano erupts on most evenings without any warning. Locals gather here around 7 p.m. not for museums or shops, but simply to watch the sun drop behind the volcano, and you get swept into that daily ritual for free.
