Hurtige fakta: Along this coastal walkway stretches 150 meters of colorful tiles designed by an Italian artist in the 1990s. Along the sea are lined up cafes, restaurants and shops, and the view toward Valletta opens up from practically every point along the street.
Højdepunkter: The tiles on the floor are not ordinary ceramic tiles, but handcrafted mosaic with over 10,000 individual pieces in 27 different shades of blue, red and yellow. When the sun sets over Valletta, the tiles reflect the light so that the whole street appears as if illuminated by fire.
Insidertips
- Photograph the mosaic from a low angle in the morning when the sun falls directly on the patterns
- Bring comfortable shoes because the tiles are slippery when wet from the sea
- Skip lunch at the restaurants right on the shore and stop by a bakery two blocks further for authentic pastizzi
- The best spot for a photo of Valletta is between two palm trees at the very end of the promenade
