Tietoa

Nopeat faktat: Kolme kukkulaa muodostaa Plovdivin muinaisen ytimen, ja Nebet Tepe on niistä korkein, yli 200 metriä. Traakialaiset linnoittivat tämän kukkulan ensimmäisen kerran noin 4000 eaa., ja myöhempien kreikkalais- ja roomalaiskausien muurit seisovat yhä tänään laajojen kaupunkinäköalojen rinnalla.

Kohokohdat: Hiljaisina iltoina paikalliset kiipeävät jyrkkää mukulakivipolkua viinipullojen ja juuston kera katsomaan auringonlaskua muinaisten linnoituksen muurien päältä. Alkuperäisen 6 metriä paksun traakialaisen kivityön voi yhä havaita upotettuna myöhempiin roomalaisiin ja keskiaikaisiin lisäyksiin, näkyvänä aikajanana 6000 vuotta jatkuneesta asutuksesta.

Sisäpiirin vinkit

  • Wear sturdy walking shoes for the steep, uneven cobblestone path that gets slippery when wet.
  • The best photo spot is the eastern edge of the plateau where the old walls frame the city below.
  • Avoid the midday heat in summer; there is almost no shade on the open hilltop.
  • Visit after 9 PM in summer for a completely different experience with the city lights spread out beneath you.
