Nopeat faktat: Eleven brick-and-stucco tiers rise 64.5 meters over Yinchuan, making it one of the tallest surviving ancient pagodas in northwest China. Its octagonal body narrows slightly at each level, and the uppermost stories are hollowed enough that a person can climb to the crown.
Kohokohdat: In the 1960s, workers repairing the pagoda pulled over 40 ancient Buddhist scriptures and a bronze statue from a hollow space inside the upper tiers, treasures hidden there for centuries. That sealed chamber likely went undisturbed since the Ming era, which means you are standing in front of a tower that kept its secrets through Mongol invasions, earthquakes, and revolutions.
