Kohokohdat: Sculptor Ivan Meštrović fashioned the colossal bronze figure in 1929; it rises to just over eight meters, and an oversized toe has been rubbed smooth and golden by generations of hands. Local students and tourists press a palm to that warm, slick toe for luck before exams or trips; the shiny spot contrasts vividly with the surrounding green patina when the sun hits at noon.
