Bremen is a generally safe and tourist-friendly city with low violent crime, but like most German cities it has its share of pickpocketing near the main station and tourist sights, plus some overpriced taxi and restaurant practices. The main things to watch are unofficial drivers, ticket validation mistakes, and menu items priced per 100 grams rather than per portion. Stick to the official taxi rank, validate your tram ticket, and pay in euros.

Näin se toimii: Men approach arriving passengers inside or just outside the terminal offering rides at inflated flat prices, bypassing the meter or official rank.
Näin vältät sen: Walk straight to the official taxi rank and take only marked licensed taxis with meters running.
Näin se toimii: Thieves work in groups, using distraction (questions, dropped items, bumped shoulders) while a partner lifts wallets or phones from pockets and bags.
Näin vältät sen: Keep bags zipped and in front, phones in front pockets, and stay alert in dense crowds and on packed trams.
Näin se toimii: Visitors buy a ticket but forget to stamp it at the validator, then face inspectors who levy the full fine regardless of the intent.
Näin vältät sen: Always stamp your ticket in the machine on the platform or in the tram before boarding; or use the app where validation is automatic.
Näin se toimii: Currency exchange counters near the main station and shopping streets offer poor rates plus commissions, eating a large slice of the amount.
Näin vältät sen: Withdraw euros from a bank ATM instead; never use airport or street exchange counters unless rates are posted clearly.
Näin se toimii: People approach tourists with a clipboard asking for signatures for a 'deaf children' or similar charity, then demand cash or attach a wristband you are expected to pay for.
Näin vältät sen: Politely decline and keep walking. Real charities do not collect cash on the street in this way.
Näin se toimii: Freestanding ATMs in shops, kiosks and tourist areas charge high upfront fees and poor exchange rates, especially when offering to convert to your home currency.
Näin vältät sen: Use ATMs attached to bank branches, decline conversion to your home currency, and review the fee notice on screen before confirming.
Ohita katukauppiaat: varaa viralliset liput ja retket ilmaisella peruutuksella.
Bremen Airport (BRE)
Reilu taksihinta (virallinen, päiväsaikaan): 30 € - 40 €. Use the official taxi rank outside the arrivals hall; metered daytime fares to the centre run roughly 30-40 euros. Never accept rides from unlicensed drivers who approach you inside the terminal.
Paras vaihtoehto: Tram line 6 from Bremen Airport to the city centre (Domsheide / Hauptbahnhof) (3,20 €, noin 20 min)
Tippaaminen: Tip 5-10% in restaurants and cafes when service is good; round up for taxis and small bills. Tipping is appreciated but not mandatory.
Pöytä- ja palvelumaksut: A few tourist-area eateries add bread or cover charges listed in small print, and some charge prepared dishes per 100 grams, which can inflate the bill. Always check the menu for per-100g pricing and confirm any cover charge before ordering.
Use ATMs attached to major bank branches. Always select to be charged in euros and decline dynamic currency conversion. Independent ATMs in shops or tourist spots often charge high fees, so check the screen before confirming.
