Nopeat faktat: Around 40 rooms survive from the original structure, which was leveled by French troops in 1801. The surviving wing later served as a Prussian military barracks before becoming home to the federal archive's central office.

The little-known story is that this was the residence of the last Elector of Trier, Clemens Wenzeslaus, who once hosted a nine-day festival here that included a hot-air balloon ascent in 1783.
