Nopeat faktat: The garden recreates a Tang Dynasty style landscape on less than 3.5 hectares, squeezed between busy Kowloon roads. Every rock, tree, and building follows strict symmetry rules based on classical Chinese garden design principles.

Kohokohdat: The timber Structure of the Gold Pagoda was assembled entirely with mortise and tenon joints, no nails or glue, using 12,000 pieces of wood shipped from Canada. Workers polished the central courtyard's granite slabs by hand until they shimmer like a still lake, and the reflection of the pagoda in the water is the single best view in the garden.

• Wear comfortable shoes, the wooden bridges and stone paths are smooth but the garden rewards slow walking and lingering.
• Head to the pavilion beside the koi pond at sunset for the clearest reflection photos of the pagoda.
• Skip weekends entirely if possible, tour buses arrive in waves and the quiet atmosphere disappears.
• The gift shop inside the main building sells small scrolls and prints, but the same items are cheaper at nearby Temple Street market.
