Nopeat faktat: Tucked into a remote Himalayan valley in Himachal Pradesh, this massive 17th-century fortress once served as a vital stop on the ancient Silk Road trade route. Its 2.5-kilometer-long perimeter wall encloses a miniature township complete with temples, granaries, and a hidden escape tunnel stretching nearly a kilometer through the mountain.
Kohokohdat: Deep inside the fortress walls, a secret three-story tunnel carved directly into solid rock was designed so that horses could ride through it for a swift escape during sieges. Visitors who descend into its pitch-black passage can still feel cool mountain air rushing through the ancient ventilation shafts.

- Wear sturdy shoes with good grip, as the uneven stone staircases inside the fort can be slippery and steep.
- Carry a flashlight or use your phone torch to explore the dark escape tunnel its full length is surprisingly long and atmospheric.

- Arrive right when it opens to experience the fort before tour groups arrive especially during peak season from March to June.
