Parnidis Dune

Nopeat faktat: Shifting up to 15 meters annually, this massive sand dune rises 52 meters above sea level and stretches nearly 2 kilometers along the Curonian Spit. A stone sundial built at its peak in the 1990s marks the exact geographic location and lets visitors tell time using their own shadow.

Kohokohdat: The sand here literally sings underfoot when conditions are right. Walking across the dune's slope on a dry day produces a low-frequency squeaking or humming sound from the friction of quartz grains against each other.
