Tietoa
Nopeat faktat: Tatran kansallispuisto kattaa 738 neliökilometriä Slovakian korkeimmalla vuoristolla ja suojelee yli 1 300 verisuonikasvilajia. Yli 600 luolaa halkoo kalkkikivimaastoa, mukaan lukien 1,8 kilometriä pitkä Belianska-luola monimutkaisine tippukivimuodostelmineen.
Kohokohdat: Aamunkoitteessa Kriváňin graniittihuiput heijastuvat plesá-nimisissä vuoristojärvissä, muuttaen veden mahdottoman turkoosiksi sävyksi. Yli 600 gemssiä, harvinaista vuohiantilooppilajia, kiipeää ketterästi täällä pystysuoria kallioita pitkin, niiden kaviot löytävät otteita, jotka ovat näkymättömiä ihmissilmälle.
Sisäpiirin vinkit
- Skip the cable car to Lomnický štít on cloudy days; you'll see nothing but fog at the top.
- Pack swim trunks in summer. Popradské pleso and Štrbské pleso allow swimming in designated areas.
- Start your hike before 7 AM to spot chamois grazing near the treeline before they retreat to higher elevations.
- Bring cash. Mountain huts only accept euros in cash and a bowl of bryndzové halušky costs about 6 euros.
