Nopeat faktat: Yli 30 kallioon hakattua kirkkoa ja kappelia muodostaa tämän luostarialueen, joka on kaiverrettu pehmeään vulkaaniseen tuffiin. Kohokohdat: Pimeä Kirkko sai nimensä siitä, ettei siinä ole juuri lainkaan ikkunoita, ja juuri tämä jatkuva hämärä on syy siihen, että sen 1000-luvun raamatulliset freskot ovat säilyneet niin koskemattomina. - Pay the separate entry fee for the Dark Church, its frescoes are dramatically more vivid than any other chapel here.
- Visit the Apple Church and Snake Church early in your walk before crowds cluster in the narrow corridors between chapels.
- Wear comfortable shoes with good grip, the carved stone pathways and steep stair climbs between chapels can be slippery.
- Photography inside the chapels is often restricted, but you can capture excellent exterior shots of the rock-cut facades from the upper pathway.
