If you are looking for things to do in Irvine, United States, the city blends outdoor recreation with family-friendly attractions. Spend an afternoon at Irvine Regional Park, which spans 477 acres and features a zoo and paddleboats. The Orange County Great Park offers a giant helium balloon ride, while Pretend City Children's Museum delights younger visitors with interactive exhibits.

An oasis of towering trees and quiet trails just minutes from the freeway noise. Ride a historic train, spot bison at the zoo, and paddle across a lake in a single afternoon.
Nopeat faktat: Levittäytyen 477 hehtaarin alueelle Orange Countyssa, tämä puisto tarjoaa yli 200 000 kotoperäistä puuta ja on Kalifornian vanhimman eläintarhan, OC Zoon, kotipaikka. Vierailijat voivat vuokrata polkuveneitä 7 hehtaarin järvellä, ajaa pienoisjunalla tai tutkia kilometrejä patikointireittejä, jotka ulottuvat alueen rancho-aikakaudelle.
Kohokohdat: Katso tarkkaan puiston historiallisia palmuja sisäänkäynnin varrella.

A former military airfield turned into a sprawling public oasis with a giant orange balloon and a historic carousel. Stroll through botanical gardens, splash in the palm-lined pools, and watch art films under the stars.
Nopeat faktat: Spread across 1,300 acres, this former Marine Corps air station was transformed into one of the largest urban parks in the United States. Its centerpiece is a massive helium balloon that lifts visitors 400 feet into the air for panoramic views of Orange County.
Kohokohdat: A 1940s-era wooden carousel discovered in a Long Beach warehouse now sits at the park, its hand-painted horses restored to their original glory with 24-karat gold leaf. Ride it for 50 cents, the same price it cost back in 1944, making it one of the cheapest nostalgic thrills in California.

Where kids run the city and adults just follow along. Watch your little one bag groceries, drive a mini ambulance, and earn their first paycheck at the kid-sized bank.
Nopeat faktat: Lapset navigoivat pikkukaupunkia, jossa on toimiva ruokakauppa, oikea pankin tiskiluukku ja säänkestävä ulkoviljelmä, jossa he voivat poimia tekovihanneksia. Yli 15 käytännönläheistä näyttelyä antavat lasten leikkiä palomiehiä, lääkäreitä ja taiteilijoita samalla kun he oppivat, miten heidän yhteisönsä toimii.
Kohokohdat: Museon "Totopolis"-alue on suunniteltu yksinomaan ryömiville ja taaperoille alle 18 kuukauden ikäisille, ja siellä on pehmeitä ramppeja, polvenkorkuisia vesipöytiä ja pehmustettu maatilan eläinalue, jossa pienimmät vierailijat voivat tutkia ilman, että vanhemmat lapset ryntäilevät ohi. Jokainen näyttely on rakennettu Kalifornian varhaiskasvatuksen oppimistavoitteiden ympärille, joten lapset saavuttavat kehityksen virstanpylväitä leikin kautta huomaamattaan.

Live music, rotating art installations, and over 130 stores make this the social hub of Orange County. Spend an evening circling the ice rink, riding the Ferris wheel, and grazing through a former aircraft hangar turned food hall.
Nopeat faktat: Spanning 5.5 million square feet, this outdoor shopping center draws over 11 million visitors annually. A 108-foot tall Ferris wheel anchors the center, lighting up with 26,000 LED bulbs that shift through 16 million color combinations at night.
Kohokohdat: The 1960s-era hangar building at the north end once housed Marine helicopter squadrons before being reimagined into a food hall with 19 different vendors. At sunset, the Ferris wheel choreographs a 5-minute light show set to music, visible from the 405 freeway as you approach.

Three hundred forty-five acres of lake, woodland, and wide-open sky just minutes from the freeway. Pedal a paddleboat across the lake, spot great blue herons wading in the shallows, and claim a picnic table under century-old trees.

Pick your own sun-warmed produce straight from the vine at one of Orange County's last working farms. You'll climb onto a hay wagon, learn how food actually grows, and taste berries so sweet you'll never look at a grocery store the same way.
Nopeat faktat: This working farm spans over 30 acres and has been feeding Southern California families since the 1960s. More than 200,000 people visit each year to pick their own strawberries, watermelons, and pumpkins straight from the field.
Kohokohdat: The farm's famous Strawberry Tour includes a ride on a tractor-pulled wagon through rows of bright red berries, topped off with a fresh strawberry shortcake made right in front of you. During fall, the pumpkin patch transforms into a 12-acre wonderland with over 200,000 pumpkins sprawling across the field in every shade of orange and green.

Wander through 12 acres of plants from five continents without leaving Orange County. Meander quiet paths past sculptural succulents, flowering aloes, and a shaded butterfly garden.
Nopeat faktat: More than 2,000 species of drought-tolerant plants from six Mediterranean climate zones thrive across 12.5 acres. The collection includes over 800 types of succulents and cacti, making it one of the most diverse arid-plant collections in Southern California.
Kohokohdat: A shaded pathway winds past a pair of century-old olive trees that were relocated from a historic Orange County ranch. In spring, the South African section erupts with aloes in fiery reds and oranges that attract migrating orioles and hummingbirds by the dozens.

Trade Irvine's sprawl for wild canyons and cattle camp history. Hike past ancient oaks, seasonal wildflowers, and sandstone walls that tell a 150-year-old story.
Nopeat faktat: Aikoinaan 4 000 hehtaarin karjatilan sydän, tämä avoin alue tarjoaa nyt 13 mailia vaellusreittejä 800 hehtaarin alueella. Historiallinen karjaleiri on edelleen pystyssä alkuperäisine kivimuureineen ja aitauksineen 1860-luvulta.
Kohokohdat: Katsomalla tarkkaan vanhaa karjaleiriä voit nähdä käsin ladottuja hiekkakiviseiniä, jotka rakensivat kiinalaiset työläiset, jotka työskentelivät tilalla 1890-luvulla. Kausittainen puro, joka on uurtanut tämän kanjonin, on myös luonut harvinaisen rannikon salviapensaiden elinympäristön, jossa kaktuspeipot ja Cooperin haukat yhä pesivät.

See California as it once was through luminous Impressionist landscapes painted a century ago. Wander galleries filled with golden hills, Pacific coastlines, and wildflower meadows captured in vivid oil.
Nopeat faktat: California's first museum dedicated solely to California Impressionist paintings holds over 2,400 artworks from the 1890s to 1940s. The museum was founded by Joan Irvine Smith, a direct descendant of the family that once owned the land that became Orange County.
Kohokohdat: Step inside and you'll find yourself surrounded by thousands of golden poppies and rolling hills painted in thick, buttery oil strokes that practically glow under the museum's skylights. The collection captures California's landscapes before freeways and strip malls, offering a visual time capsule of the state's wild, untamed beauty.

Three distinct ecosystems collide on a single 3.8-mile loop, from cactus-dotted desert slopes to shady oak woodlands. Watch for mule deer, listen for quail calls echoing off the canyon walls, and end with a panoramic view that captures mountain peaks and ocean waves in one glance.
Nopeat faktat: Reitin alkupiste avautuu lähes 6,5 kilometrin pituisille vaellusreiteille, jotka kiemurtelevat rannikon maustepensaiden ja 15 miljoonaa vuotta vanhojen vulkaanisten kalliomuodostelmien läpi. Aamun sumu peittää usein alempaa kanjonia, kun taas ylemmät harjanteet kylpevät kultaisessa auringonvalossa, mikä luo dramaattisia lämpötilaeroja, jopa 15 astetta reitin osien välillä.
Kohokohdat: Kirkkaina päivinä harjanteen 360 asteen näkymä paljastaa Tyynenmeren ulottuen Catalina Islandille, lumipeitteiset San Gabriel -vuoret ja koko Irvinen horisontin kerralla. Puolivälissä sijaitsee vähän tunnettu penkki valtavan kaliforniansykomoorin alla, jossa retkeilijät voivat katsella punahaukkoja liitelemässä lämpövirtauksissa aivan pään yläpuolella.

Skip the rental car if you can. The Irvine shuttle is free and connects to the train station for cheap trips to LA or SD.
Food scene is meh unless you like chain restaurants. Had to drive 20 mins for decent pho.
If you are coming in summer, bring a jacket for indoor places. They blast the AC everywhere here.
Brought my bike and explored the whole city in two days. The bike trails are well maintained and connect everywhere.
Eat at the food court inside the Korean超市 on Culver. Best $10 lunch you will have, cash only though.
