Γρήγορα στοιχεία: Τέσσερις τεράστιες πέτρινες αψίδες υψώνονται 11 μέτρα, σκαλισμένες από ροζ γρανίτη που μεταφέρθηκε από 40 χιλιόμετρα μακριά. Το μνημείο τιμά τη Μάχη του Χουνίν του 1824, μια από τις τελευταίες συγκρούσεις στον πόλεμο ανεξαρτησίας του Περού από την Ισπανία.

Οι ντόπιοι μαζεύονται εδώ κάθε βράδυ για αυτοσχέδιους πάγκους street food και παρτίδες ντόμινο, κάνοντάς το ένα ζωντανό κοινοτικό χώρο και όχι ένα στατικό μνημείο.

- Come around 5 PM to catch the sunset light hitting the granite blocks and turning them a deep orange.
- Bring small coins to buy anticuchos (grilled beef heart skewers) from the vendors who set up nearby in the evening.
- Skip going inside the archway itself during midday the sun is harsh and the shadows offer no relief.
- Combine this with a walk through the nearby Plaza de Armas, just 5 minutes on foot.
