Gyors tények: A 101 kilométeren át húzódó, Lengyelországon és Fehéroroszországon áthaladó 19. századi vízi út 18 zsilipen és 22 csatornán keresztül köti össze a Visztula és a Neman folyókat. A mérnökök olyan pontossággal tervezték a csatornát, hogy eredeti zsilipmechanizmusai, amelyeket fagerendák segítségével kézzel működtetnek, közel 200 év után is működőképesek.
