Gyors tények: The museum's collection spans 5,000 years of Nicosia's history, from the Chalcolithic period through to modern times. It won the Council of Europe Museum Prize in 1991, just seven years after opening its doors to the public.

The rooftop terrace offers a lovely view over the old city but is easy to miss, ask staff for access if the door appears locked.
Audio guides are included with entry and take about 90 minutes, but allow extra time if you linger over the 1930s street reconstruction.
Photography is allowed without flash throughout, so bring a camera for the intricate Ottoman-era woodwork and silver jewelry displays.
