Gyors tények: Only a handful of women ever ruled the ancient Nile kingdom as full pharaoh, and this queen reigned for 22 triumphant years. Her monument stacks three colonnaded terraces against a cliff nearly 300 meters tall that looms over the desert floor.
Főbb látnivalók: Her chief steward Senenmut secretly carved a small portrait of himself into a pillar inside a doorway, so he could watch over his queen for eternity. Faded traces of blue and red paint on the reliefs hint that the whole complex once blazed with vivid color.

- A broad-brimmed hat and two full water bottles are non-negotiable, the ramps offer zero shade by late morning.

- Ask a site guard to point out the concealed likeness, it is tiny and easy to walk right past.
