Gyors tények: Nearly 40,000 carved stone blocks were cut apart, numbered, and rebuilt 12 meters higher on a safer island during a 1970s UNESCO rescue mission. Priests kept worshipping the goddess of magic here until the 6th century, long after Rome banned other pagan cults, and Christian monks later painted over the ancient carvings.
