Ról ről

Gyors tények: Falai több mint ezer év történelmét látták, 1039-es felszentelésétől az oszmán inváziók utáni újjáépítésekig. Belsejében őrzi Magyarország legrégebbi kriptáját, a 11. századi oszlopokkal és fejezetekkel, amelyeket kevés európai épület őriz meg.

Főbb látnivalók: A kriptában négy eredeti kőoszlop az 1000-es évekből tartja tíz évszázad súlyát geometrikus mintákkal faragott oszlopfőin. Az akusztika lenyűgöző: amikor az orgonista délben próbál, az orgona hangjai átjárják a hajót, mintha maga az épület énekelne.

Bennfentes tippek

  • Avoid the guided group tours at noon; early on Fridays there is hardly anyone.
  • Bring a small flashlight to appreciate the reliefs in the crypt, where the lighting is dim.
  • If the bells ring at twelve o'clock, stay still under the west porch: the echo bounces off the four towers.
  • The combined ticket with the chapter treasury and the church history museum costs only 1000 HUF extra and is worth it.
