Gyors tények: The water contains up to 30 percent salt, so extreme that it is locally extracted for industrial soda. Every rainy season, the lake turns pinkish due to millions of flamingos that come to feed on the algae.

- Wear a hat, sunglasses, and sturdy shoes, because the white soda flats reflect the sun harshly and become bone-dry and brittle.
- Go before sunrise or at sunset to the southern section where the flamingos gather for the best photos and the most beautiful light.
- Do not venture too far onto the lake, the crust can be deceptively thin and you may sink unnoticed into the mud beneath.
- Do not skip the nearby hot springs at Little Magadi, where you can safely wade in the warm water.
