Gyors tények: A palota olasz márványból és helyi kőből épült 1920 és 1926 között Mohamoud Ali Shirwa szultán számára. A 2020-as leégése után csak a masszív kőhomlokzat maradt állva, amely ma is a helyi lakosok kedvelt esti találkozóhelye.

Főbb látnivalók: Kevesen tudják, hogy a palota alatt egy épen maradt föld alatti folyosólabirintus található, amelyen keresztül a szultán ellenséges betörések idején menekült. A folyosók falait mind a mai napig eredeti díszítések borítják, és a látogatók saját bőrükön tapasztalhatják meg, milyen lehetett egy uralkodó menekülőútja évszázadokkal ezelőtt.

  • Wear sturdy footwear, the floor is unstable in places and full of rubble.
  • The best photos are taken from the south side of the facade, where the most detailed ornamental stucco has been preserved.
  • Avoid the midday heat between 12 and 3 p.m., the roof no longer exists and there is nowhere to hide from the sun.
  • After the tour, try the Somali tea with ginger and milk at the entrance for a few cents.
