About

Gyors tények: Elegant stone ornamentation and simple Seljuk lines give the place both serenity and a dignified character. As you wander the courtyard, the worn marks on the stone and the rhythm of the door hinges recall the footsteps that have changed over hundreds of years.

Kiemelkedő helyek: In the late afternoon a light breeze brings the scent of sea salt into the courtyard, and the stone walls still hold the warmth of the sun. When you step inside, the heavy knock of the old wooden door knocker and the shadows in candlelight make the deep carvings on the stone surfaces even more striking.

Insider tips

  • Wear modest clothing and keep a light headscarf handy, you will need to remove shoes before entering the prayer hall.
  • Head to the courtyard by the minaret for the best framed shots of the mosque with the sea in the background.
  • Avoid Friday midday prayers when the mosque is busiest and visitor access may be limited.
  • Combine the stop with Sinop Castle and the Archaeology Museum, both an easy walk along the cape to save time and transport costs.

Arrived at 9am and walked right in with few visitors. Small entrance fee is fair; the calm courtyard and carved mihrab made it well worth stopping by.

Went at 4pm and it was pretty crowded so photos took time. The mosque is beautiful but free entry and almost no info panels left me underwhelmed for what I expected.
