Ascensor Concepción
Best time to visit
Early morning or late evening, when sunlight plays on the colorful facades and there are fewer people. The golden hour before sunset offers the most dramatic lighting.
Budget tips
A ticket costs about 300-400 CLP (under 0.50 euro) one way. Cash is required, card payment is not accepted. Locals pay less, but the price for tourists is still ridiculously cheap.

About
Quick facts: It rises at a 45-degree angle for 70 meters, connecting Plaza Justinian with Cerro Concepcion. A wooden carriage that has been in service since 1883 pulls passengers upward with the help of cables.
Highlights: From the funicular cabin, a view opens to 15 different colorful houses that seem to hang on the cliff. Local residents still use the lift for daily commuting, not just tourists.
Insider tips
- When sitting, choose the right-hand side for the best view down to the bay.
- Arrive at the station at least 15 minutes before closing, as staff finish exactly on schedule.
- The best photos can be taken from the upper platform of the funicular, not from the car itself.
- Combine your visit with the street art of Cerro Concepcion, both are on the same hill.
