Szybkie fakty: The sprawling palace complex covers over 22 acres and contains nine temples, each with wildly different architectural styles. One of the most striking features is the 19th-century Shiva temple, topped with a massive 40-foot spire shaped like a lingam.

The terracotta panels on the Govinda Temple tell stories from the Ramayana and Mahabharata through thousands of hand-carved scenes, each no bigger than a dinner plate.
