O
Rýchle fakty: This 5-kilometer boardwalk trail winds through one of Europe's last remaining raised bogs, some peat layers reaching depths of 7 meters. Over 10,000 years old, the bog creates its own microclimate with specialized carnivorous plants like sundews trapping insects along the path.
Zaujímavosti: Stand at the wooden observation tower at the halfway point and watch the horizon curve around you, the bog stretching in every direction like a cinnamon-colored ocean. On quiet days, you can hear the bog actually breathing: pockets of methane gas bubbling up through the waterlogged peat create a soft, rhythmic popping sound beneath the boards.
Insiderské tipy
- Wear waterproof boots even in dry weather, the boardwalk can be slippery with morning dew and bog mist.
- Bring binoculars to spot golden eagles and black storks that nest in the surrounding forest edges.
- Skip the midday crowds in July by arriving at 8 AM when mist still hangs over the bog pools.
- Pack insect repellent in summer months, the bog is prime mosquito habitat especially near dawn and dusk.
