Rýchle fakty: Štyri desaťročia trvajúce posadnuté zbieranie jedného muža zhromaždilo vyše 6 000 kusov od egyptských artefaktov po francúzske úžitkové umenie. Samotná budova je majstrovským dielom portugalskej modernistickej architektúry zo 60. rokov 20. storočia, obklopujúcim pokojné záhradné nádvorie.
Zaujímavosti: Gulbenkian osobne vybral každý kúsok v tomto múzeu a jeho vkus smeroval k dokonalosti, nie k trendom. Uvidíte jedinú miestnosť, kde arménsky iluminovaný rukopis zo 14. storočia sedí vedľa sklenenej vázy od Laliquea a obrazu od Rembrandta, vybrané čisto preto, lebo ich zberateľ miloval.
