Visit on a weekday morning right when gates open at 9:30 AM to dodge the crowds that flood the palace by midday. Spring and fall offer the clearest views from the terrace, as summer haze often obscures the coastline.

Rýchle fakty: Palác sa týči 500 metrov nad atlantickým pobrežím a jeho odvážne karmínové a horčicovožlté fasády boli inšpirované kláštorom, ktorý kedysi stál na tomto presnom mieste. Kráľ Ferdinand II. premenil zničený stredoveký konvent na letné sídlo portugalskej kráľovskej rodiny, pričom zmiešal gotické, maurské a renesančné prvky do jedného rozmarného výtvoru.
Zaujímavosti: Pozrite sa pozorne na exteriér paláca a všimnete si obrovského kamenného salamandra prichyteného na terasovej stene, tvora, ktorý symbolizuje alchymickú premenu základných kovov na zlato.
