Hakkında
Hızlı bilgiler: Bu kutsal mekânda Maya inancı Katolik gelenekle iç içe geçmiştir ve her yıl Guatemala'nın her yerinden binlerce hacı buraya gelir. Taş tanrının çevresinde yüzyıllardır palmiye yaprakları, çiçekler, sigaralar ve içkiyle ritüeller gerçekleştirilir.
Öne çıkanlar: Yerel şamanlar (chuchkajau) burada yaklaşık 50 quetzal karşılığında törenler düzenler ve Maya takvimine karşılık gelen sayıda mum yakarlar. Copal reçinesinin dumanı, hacıların taş tanrının yüzüne bıraktığı taze kesilmiş çiçeklerin kokusuyla karışır.
İçeriden ipuçları
- Photography is allowed, but always ask the shaman leading the ceremony for permission first.
- Light your own candle or place a flower, locals perceive this as a sign of respect.
- Do not come here on Sunday afternoon, when the crowds are largest and the atmosphere loses its authenticity.
- Expect a steep climb from the Santo Tomás church, wear sturdy footwear.
