Hızlı bilgiler: This site lies about 70 kilometers southwest of Nairobi and includes one of the oldest Middle Stone Age sites in East Africa, with finds about 200,000 years old. The earliest systematic excavations here were led by Mary Leakey, who, together with her team, uncovered thousands of stone tools and fragments of extinct animals.
Öne çıkanlar: Under an overhanging rock in the valley lie thousands of hand axes and stone splinters still exactly as they were left thousands of years ago, a rare snapshot of an ancient workplace. Scientists counted about 38,000 stone tools here on a relatively small surface, so you can almost hear the hissing sound of grinding as you walk among the shards.

- Wear sturdy shoes or high-top sneakers, because the ground around the excavations is loose and uneven.
- Ask the ranger about the remote viewpoints above the valley, which offer the best views of the sandstone formations.
- Bring binoculars and water, there are no shops or kiosks on the grounds themselves.
- Come early on weekdays, then you will have the grounds almost to yourself and can give the guide more time for detailed explanations.
