Late afternoon (around 4-5 PM) for the golden hour light hitting the stone wall and the peninsula. Spring and autumn offer the most comfortable temperatures for exploring the uneven, exposed terrain.

Hakkında

Hızlı bilgiler: Perched on a rocky peninsula jutting into the Aegean, this fortress was originally built by the Knights of St. John in the 15th century using stones scavenged from the ruins of the Mausoleum of Halicarnassus, one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World. Its current form features a single surviving 200-meter-long wall rising dramatically from the hillside, with the rest reclaimed by wild olive trees and scrub brush over centuries of abandonment.

Öne çıkanlar: Unlike Bodrum's polished Castle of St. Peter, this ruin remains completely untouched and un-restored , you can run your fingers over the same rough-hewn limestone blocks the knights laid down 600 years ago. Climb to the top of the remaining wall at sunset and you'll catch the golden light hitting the battlements while goats wander through the scattered stone blocks below, exactly as they have for generations.
