Visit in late spring (May-June) when the rhododendrons bloom across the mountain slopes, or in early autumn (September-October) for mild temperatures and clear views. Summer weekends draw crowds heading to Sumela, so a weekday morning visit is ideal for a quieter experience.

The tea gardens behind the main mosque serve the freshest çay for just 5-10 TL , look for the ones with older plastic chairs, they're the best.
For a stunning photo spot, walk 5 minutes up the side road behind the gas station for a panoramic view of the entire valley.
Skip eating at the tourist-oriented restaurants on the main road and walk two blocks inland for authentic Black Sea cuisine at half the price.
Weekday mornings between 9:00-11:00 are the quietest time to explore the center before Sumela-bound tour buses arrive.
