Visitors often pause at the intricately carved pulpit and wonder how royal coronations and centuries of ceremonies have shaped the building's layered, dramatic atmosphere.
Highlights: Look up at the roof: thousands of glossy Zsolnay eosin-glazed tiles catch the sun in greens, reds and golds so they sparkle like dragon scales when you tilt your head. Between 1541 and 1686 the interior was used as a mosque, which led to medieval frescoes being plastered over and later uncovered as faint, ghostly fragments beside the brighter 19th-century paintings.
