The street food scene in Probolinggo is vibrant but try to avoid the rainy season, it can get really muddy and uncomfortable. A 3-day stay felt just right for exploring and relaxing.
Probolinggo’s vibe is pretty chill, not too touristy yet which was refreshing. I stayed a week and that allowed a good mix of adventure and downtime.
Local tip, try Nasi Tempong at a roadside warung outside the town center for authentic taste at half the price you find downtown.
Weather was hotter than expected, so pack light clothes and stay hydrated. The locals were friendly which made navigating easy even with zero Bahasa skills.
Tip: If you want to visit Bromo but skip the tour hassle, grab a local minibus from the market early morning. Cheaper and more flexible than tour operators.
