Quick facts: The Corniche stretches for seven kilometers along Doha Bay. More than 20,000 trees and palms line the waterfront promenade, which is used daily by thousands of joggers, cyclists, and pedestrians.
Highlights: At high tide, it seems as if Doha's skyline grows directly out of the water, especially spectacular at sunset when the glass facades of the skyscrapers light up in gold and orange. Less well known is the night dhow fleet, whose wooden sailing boats have been anchored here for centuries, creating a magical contrast with the modern towers.
Insider tips
- The best photo spot for the skyline is at the eastern end near Sheraton Park, especially one hour before sunset.
- Use the public water taxis for only 5 QAR between stations along the Corniche, a refreshing alternative to walking.
- Early in the morning between 5:30 and 7:00, the promenade is almost empty and you have the best time for photos without crowds.
- On Friday mornings, the Corniche is car-free and becomes a huge public recreation area for cyclists and skaters.
