Quick facts: More than 100 kilograms of gold were used to decorate the interiors of the palace. The Grand Ballroom extends for about 1,000 square meters, illuminated by 696 candles in its crystal chandeliers.
Highlights: The Amber Room was a masterpiece of amber panels and gold leaf, which disappeared during World War II. After 24 years of work, Russian artisans recreated an identical copy, using 6 tons of amber and 8 million dollars' worth of precious materials.
