Best time to visit
In summer, the morning is the best time because the air is clearest and the view of the Tatra Mountains is the best. In winter, it is worth arriving when the first ski lifts start in the morning (8:30-9:00) to avoid the crowds.
Budget tips
The round trip on the cable car costs 26 euros for adults in 2024. If you are visiting several places in the Liptov Basin, it is worth buying the Liptov Region Card, which gives you a discount on the cable car and other attractions in the area.

About
Quick facts: The 2024-meter peak rises above the Liptov Basin in the central part of Slovakia. The cable car at Chopok takes skiers and hikers up; in winter it is one of the centers of the Slovak ski season.
Highlights: From the lookout tower at the summit, on a clear day you can see 26 peaks of the Tatra Mountains at once. On the northern side of the mountain there is the 800-meter-long Biela púť ski slope, where you can race down at speeds of up to 60 km/h.
Insider tips
- Do not miss the Chata pod Chopkom mountain hut: the homemade bryndzové halušky (sheep cheese gnocchi) here is one of the best in the entire region.
- If you want to take photos, you can capture the best Tatra panorama pictures on the ridge 200 meters south of the summit during the golden hour before sunset.
- Instead of weekends, it is better to come on Tuesday or Wednesday, when the number of people waiting at the cable car can drop to as little as a third.
- In winter, be sure to bring crampons and poles, because the path leading to the summit often turns into a slippery sheet of ice.
