Perdicaris Park
Best time to visit
Spring and late autumn are ideal for walking among vibrant flowers and trees. Early morning is the best time to see Spain's coasts clearly before fog envelops the horizon.
Budget tips
Entry is completely free and you do not need any of the city tickets. Carry water and light snacks with you because commercial outlets are almost nonexistent inside the forest.

About
Quick facts: It stretches over 65 hectares of cork oak and eucalyptus forests, and from its summit you can see the Strait of Gibraltar and the coasts of Spain 14 kilometers away on clear days. Here history met adventure: the original owner of the land was kidnapped in 1904 in an incident that shook Western capitals, and the ocean spray still wets the paths to this day.
Highlights: From the upper rocky edge you can see with your own eyes the meeting point of the Atlantic Ocean and the Mediterranean Sea: white waves crashing from the west, and calm turquoise waters from the east. The forest paths preserve the story of the kidnapping of its owner in 1904 by a baron of the mountains, an incident that spilled ink in the world press for weeks and was sent by diplomats to Washington overnight.
Insider tips
- Wear comfortable sports shoes because the trails are dirt and steep.
- Do not forget your binoculars, as the views of the strait ships and the two continents are worth capturing from the highest point.
- Come in the morning on holidays before the small parking lots near the entrance fill up.
- Make sunset your last stop at the western cliff where the sun sets behind the Atlantic waves.
