Look up to the high altar where a massive Gothic altarpiece bursts with over 200 carved and painted wooden figures, their worn colors and gold catching the light like a small, carved city of saints.

Istaknuto: Inside the church the giant late-Gothic wooden altarpiece carved by Veit Stoss between 1477 and 1489 soars about 13 meters high, its hundreds of tiny carved saints and wrinkled faces catching flecks of candlelight and gold leaf. Up in the taller tower a lone trumpeter still plays the famous hejnał every hour and abruptly stops mid-melody, a dramatic break that commemorates the trumpeter said to have been shot while warning the city in 1241.
