The building holds over 30,000 architectural drawings and 30,000 books, plus a sarcophagus of Pharaoh Seti I that took three days to haul inside.
Istaknuto: Soane designed the museum itself as a piece of architectural theater: walls swing open to reveal hidden galleries, mirrors multiply candlelight into infinity, and the tiny Breakfast Room feels like stepping inside an optical illusion. You can stand in the Monk's Parlor, a deliberately gloomy chamber he created just to show off how torchlight makes objects look sinister.
