Hurtige fakta: På den 156 meter høje bakke Bunardzhik står en 11,5 meter høj statue af en soldat med en riffel vendt mod øst. Plovdivs indbyggere kalder den kærligt Aljosja, efter helten fra en russisk sang om en sovjetisk soldat.
Højdepunkter: Hvert forår samles tusindvis af Plovdivs borgere ved foden af statuen til den traditionelle fejring af befrielsesdagen, hvor vinden spreder duften af lindetræer og blomster. Om natten belyser kraftige projektører statuen, så dens skygge rækker over halvdelen af byen.

- Bring water with you, there are no drink stands on the hill.
- The best photos are taken from the left side of the statue, where the background is most open toward the city.
- On weekday mornings it is almost completely empty, ideal for some peaceful moments.
- Walk up the stairs from the city center, the climb takes only 10 minutes and offers wonderful views along the way.
