Hurtige fakta: På tre bakker ligger den ældste del af byen, hvor mennesker har boet i over 8000 år. Her har thrakere, makedonere og romere efterladt deres spor, og i dag er det et populært samlingssted med en betagende udsigt.
Højdepunkter: Under gulvet i den gamle fæstning ligger lag fra fem forskellige civilisationer, som man kan observere lige gennem glasplader i gulvet. Det mest overraskende er, at man midt i ruinerne kan nyde en kop kaffe og betragte solnedgangen, ligesom romerske senatorer gjorde for 2000 år siden.

- For the best photo, stand at the far southern edge of the hill, where you get the full panorama of the old town center.
- Wear comfortable shoes, as the paths are paved with uneven stones and several steep inclines lead up to them.
- It is most peaceful on weekdays early in the morning, before the tourists have gathered.
- Keep a flashlight on your phone handy if you want to explore the preserved Roman underground spaces beneath the fortress.
