Om

Hurtige fakta: Every Sunday morning, hundreds of locals haul out vintage cameras, Soviet-era medals, and hand-embroidered textiles to sell on worn wooden tables under the old Plane trees. You can find everything from a 1930s Leica to a communist-era T-34 tank keychain for about 2 leva (1 euro).

Højdepunkter: The real magic happens at sunrise, when the first vendors arrive with thermoses of Turkish coffee and start bargaining before most tourists have even had breakfast. One regular seller, a retired engineer, has been coming for 37 years and still brings his original 1950s Bulgarian accordion to serenade the early crowd.

Insidertips

  • Bring small bills and change, as vendors rarely have change for 50 leva notes.
  • The best vintage cameras and Soviet medals are at the tables closest to the Cathedral, where the oldest sellers camp out.
  • Don't skip the back rows near the playground, that's where you'll find weird communist-era toys and old vinyl records.
  • Wear comfortable shoes and arrive hungry, there's a small food stall selling fresh banitsa (cheese pastry) for 1 leva.
