Hurtige fakta: Omkring 15 stenkonstruktioner ligger spredt over en klippefyldt højde, en forsvarsborg rejst af atacameñofolket i middelalderen. Et blodigt slag i 1540 fik forsvarerne til at forlade højden, og resterne af muren står stadig i dag.
Højdepunkter: En enkelt smal åbning i muren fungerede som port, et forsvar så effektivt, at nogle få kunne holde en hel hær udenfor. Oppe på højderyggen, godt 100 højdemeter over floden, får du hele dalen og den 5 916 meter høje vulkan Licancabur i samme blik.

- Bring at least one liter of water and sturdy shoes, the last stretch is steep and rocky.
- Come for sunset for golden light over the valley, but allow time to get back down before darkness falls.
- Take the opportunity to photograph the volcano from the upper terraces, where you get the whole mountain range in the frame.
- Skip the guided tours if you are an experienced hiker, the trail is easy to find on your own.
