It is worth coming early in the morning or just before sunset, as the snowy peaks of the Tatra Mountains are reflected on the still water surface at these times. In summer, the water level is lower, allowing the remains of the old villages to be seen.

The dam and the observation tower can be visited free of charge, and parking is available in a small area next to the dam. It is advisable to book water tours or boat trips in advance; the best value for money is offered by shared group tours.

Hurtige fakta: Under vandoverfladen gemmer sig et fuldstændigt bevaret kirketårn fra 1200-tallet, som af og til dukker op ved lav vandstand. Da dæmningen blev bygget, oversvømmede man 40 landsbyer og 230 kvadratkilometer areal, herunder byen Szentiván.
Højdepunkter: Legenden siger, at når vandet er stille, kan man stadig høre klokkerne fra de oversvømmede kirker runge fra dybet. Fra toppen af det 87 meter høje dæmningstårn åbenbarer der sig en panoramaudsigt, hvor fortiden under vandet og Tatras tinder ses på én gang.

- Bring your binoculars: white-tailed eagles and cormorants often hunt for fish at the foot of the dam.
- You can take the best photo from the northern side of the dam, from the rocky shoreline, where the Tatra Mountains are visible in their full height.
- If you come during a heatwave, avoid the midday hours; there is no shade on the concrete, and the temperature can rise above 40 degrees Celsius.
- You can visit the nearby UNESCO World Heritage village of Vlkolínec and the Jánošík Gorge in a single day starting from here.
